A Nevada police officer got a big surprise this Wednesday morning! He had just pulled over a motorist for speeding on the highway when a tractor trailer suddenly lost control and sent its cargo, 1,000 lbs of beer, straight at the officer in the form of a tidal wave.
The police officer, Trooper Travis Smaka of the Nevada Highway Patrol, had just pulled over a motorist for speeding on Interstate 15 and was approaching the vehicle’s passenger side to begin asking the driver some questions. In an incredible coincidence, the officer begins to ask the driver if he has had anything to drink tonight – and at that exact second, the tractor trailer’s brakes can be heard locking up and a wave of beer is sent careening at the officer and the driver’s vehicle!!! I hope he had his window rolled up!
The officer couldn’t help but laugh about the timing, and he was a really good sport about the whole thing – he even let the driver he had pulled over for speeding go with just a warning. Trooper Smaka felt the driver and his vehicle had already gone through enough, and hinted that the one who deserved a ticket was the currently unidentified motorist who is alleged to have cut the semi-truck off, causing the accident.
This may be an amusing story, but there is a lesson to be learned here – everyone must be careful on our Nation’s highways, and they need to be especially cautious and courteous to tractor trailer operators. Truck driving is a demanding and dangerous job, and when people make the job harder for tractor trailer operators, the end result is a more dangerous roadway for all of us.
